Do you offer automatic delivery?
Yes. Automatic delivery is a worry free way for you to make sure you never run out of oil. Jeff's Oil will automatically deliver you oil when you need it.
Unlike some other oil companies you can cancel automatic delivery service at any time. Just make sure you talk directly to one of our representatives, avoid canceling automatic delivery over our message machine. We ask this not so we have an opportunity to persuade you but to avoid any misunderstandings.
We designed our own computer software program to forecast when you need your next delivery. That software program is now being used at hundreds of fuel companies from Alaska to Maine.
Your consumption of oil is based on the weather and your house and habits. Obviously, the colder it is outside, the more fuel you will burn. We track the temperature using a unit called a 'Degree Day'. The colder it is outside, the more 'degree days' there are. The temperature is pretty much the same for all our customers. What is different is each person's house and each family's habits. For example, you may live in a big house that is 100 years old and thus has poor insulation while your neighbor may live in a 2 year old house that is very small. As a result, your consumption of oil will be drastically different. There are other factors as well such as how many showers you take a day, whether you turn your heat down at night or when you go to work etc.
No. There is no additional fees or charges for you to join our automatic delivery program.
No. As we mentioned above, our forecasting software is used at hundreds of fuel companies across the United States. It constantly recalculates your consumption based on each delivery we make. As long as there are not drastic changes, you will not run out of oil.
Drastic changes? What do you mean by that? Here are some examples of things you would need to notify Jeff's Oil about:
1. You put an addition on to your house. (This will increase the area of your home and result in you burning more fuel).
2. You had construction done to your home in the winter. (If the construction involved some time where doors or windows were left open, etc, then you are going to use a lot more oil and we need to know).
3. If your children come home from college and now for the month of January you are heating your finished basement whereas you weren't before.
4. Sometimes, even the addition of a new family member is enough to cause drastic changes in the oil being burned. So, if that new family member changes how you heat your house, then let us know.
So, what do you do if something changed? Just give us a call and let us know. We'll adjust your next delivery accordingly to make sure to account for this new information.
You do not have to join our automatic delivery program. However, do not base your decision on being able to know when the price of oil is low. You will never know when the price is going to be low. If you did (or if we did), we wouldn't be doing what we do. We would all be millionaires buying and selling oil on the stock exchange.
We have a computer software program that tells us when you need an oil delivery. When the software says you need a delivery, we make the delivery. The price of oil never impacts our decision to make that automatic delivery. Why? Because the truth is, we don't really know when oil is going to go up and when it is going to go down. If your account pulls up for a delivery today, we do not really know if we wait 2 days whether the price of oil will be higher or lower. As a result, we make the delivery when the computer says you are due.
If you invest in mutual funds, you have probably heard of 'dollar cost averaging'. The jist of it is that you don't really know whether a stock is going to go up or down and thus you should not try to guess and instead just make steady purchases. And, in essence, that is how automatic delivery works. We make the deliveries when you need oil. Sometimes you may get an incredibly good price and other times the market may be high and you may be paying a higher price than what oil was the week before, but, in the long run, you average out to getting a better price than if you tried to guess when the price is low.
Yes. You do not need to think about whether or not you have oil in your tank. This saves you from waking up at 3am one night thinking 'I forgot all about the oil. I hope we make it through the night'. It also saves you from having to periodically go down to your basement to look at the gauge on your oil tank to see if you need a delivery.
No there are not.
Some time ago, before personal computers, oil companies would charge for automatic delivery service.
A degree day is a measurement of how cold it is outside. We input this into our computer software each day so the software knows how cold it is.
A 'K factor' is your 'consumption rate'. While the temperature is basically the same for all our customers, each one of our customers will have a different consumption rate. This consumption rate is determined by a variety of factors: the size of your house, how good your insulation is, how good your windows are, if there are any drafts at the doors and windows, whether you turn down your heat at night or when you are at work, how many showers you take, etc.
And, armed with these numbers, our computer software is able to accurately predict when you will need fuel.
